Our Prestonsburg dental team can now provide high-quality dental restorations without the wait! What Are CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that gets placed over the entire portion of a tooth that is visible above the gumline. A crown can renew the function, shape, and appearance of a badly damaged tooth. In many cases, crowns can even play a role in preventing the need for extractions.
The traditional dental crown process requires multiple appointments. However, our practice has invested in Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) technology. This advanced system uses CAD/CAM technology to allow us to design and fabricate high-quality ceramic crowns in a matter of mere hours. CEREC crowns are just as durable and beautiful as their traditional counterparts.
The Process of Getting a CEREC Same-Day Dental Crown
Here is an overview of the CEREC process:
- We prepare the tooth. This usually involves removing a bit of its enamel so it will fit well beneath its new restoration.
- We take impressions. Advanced scanning technology makes this part of the process both quick and easy.
- We use advanced software to design the crown. Once the design is ready, it gets sent to our in-house milling unit, which fabricates the crown out of high-quality dental ceramic.
- We verify the crown’s fit and attach it to the tooth. After just a single appointment, you can go on your way with a beautiful, functional, and strong restoration!
In most cases, the crown process can be completed in a single appointment. However, in certain instances, we might ask patients to come back another day to receive the crown. For example, this might happen if your initial appointment takes place somewhat late during our business day.
Benefits of CEREC Crowns vs. Traditional Crowns
Some of the most noteworthy benefits of CEREC crowns include:
- You can save time. You may only have to make one trip to our office instead of two or more.
- There is no need for a temporary crown. In most cases, the CEREC process eliminates the need for an inconvenient and unsteady temporary restoration.
- There are no messy impressions. The digital scanning process is fast, incredibly accurate, and quite comfortable.
- CEREC crowns are beautiful. You can expect your restoration to blend in beautifully with the neighboring teeth.
- CEREC crowns are durable. With proper care, a CEREC crown may last for 10 years or longer.
