Do’s and Don’ts of Successful SureSmile Treatment

SureSmile clear aligners are one of the most convenient and discreet ways to correct dental misalignment. In order for your treatment to be successful, however, you need to adhere to some good habits. What are the basic do’s and don’ts of SureSmile? This blog post explains some important points that you should keep in mind.

SureSmile Do’s

To keep your treatment on track, you should:

  • Soak your aligners daily. Soaking your aligners in a cleansing solution for 15 – 30 minutes a day can help to get rid of bacterial buildup and keep your smile fresh and clean. Many patients choose to soak their aligners at dinnertime.
  • Keep your teeth clean. It is wise to brush and floss your teeth before placing SureSmile in your mouth. This prevents the aligners from trapping food particles and acids against your teeth. It therefore protects your oral health and keeps your aligners looking their best.
  • Wear your aligners enough. Remember, SureSmile only works when you are using it! Try to keep your aligners in your mouth for 20 – 22 hours each day.
  • Ask your dentist if you have questions. Your SureSmile provider wants you to enjoy successful treatment, so you should not hesitate to call with any questions or concerns that arise.

SureSmile Don’ts

Here are some things you should not do during your SureSmile treatment:

  • Smoke. Cigarette smoke can quickly stain your aligners. It can also be detrimental to your oral health.
  • Eat or drink while wearing your aligners. It is fine to sip on plain water while SureSmile is in your mouth. If you are consuming anything else, you should remove your aligners.
  • Leave your aligners out in the open. Instead, place them in their storage case whenever you are not wearing them or cleaning them.
  • Use the wrong cleaning ingredients. You should not use any harsh or abrasive cleaning agents on your aligners. Clear, mild soap is best. You can ask your dental team for product recommendations.

SureSmile treatment might require you to adjust some of your habits, but as long as you apply some basic do’s and don’ts, you can expect a smooth and successful experience.
