If you are getting ready to start with SureSmile treatment, you have much to look forward to! As your teeth gradually shift into their proper positions, you may enjoy more and more confidence in addition to oral health benefits. But what can you do to prepare for the road ahead? Here are some practical tips on how to prepare for SureSmile in Prestonsburg.
Get Your Budget in Order
During your SureSmile consultation, your dental team provided you with an estimate for the cost of your treatment. If you can pay for it upfront, that’s wonderful. However, if you plan to finance your treatment through CareCredit or a similar entity, it is important that you arrange your budget so your payments can be completed without problems. The last thing you want is for SureSmile to cause you monetary stress. Fortunately, it is relatively affordable compared to other clear aligner systems.
Adjust Your Habits
Once you start wearing SureSmile, some of your daily habits will need to change. For example, instead of brushing your teeth just twice a day, you should brush after every meal to prevent food and bacteria from getting trapped in your aligners. By brushing more now, you can prepare yourself for when you are in the midst of your SureSmile treatment.
Similarly, you may have to alter your snacking habits. SureSmile should be worn for roughly 22 hours each day, which doesn’t leave a lot of leeway for frequent snacking. Try to start planning your meals so you consume enough calories at breakfast, lunch, and dinner that you won’t feel the urge to munch on other snacks throughout the day.
Also, if you tend to take a long time to drink any beverages other than water, you should start trying to finish them relatively quickly. You should not consume them while your aligners are in your mouth, and continually removing your aligners to take sips would be inconvenient.
Purchase the Right Supplies
Your dentist will provide you with some of the basic supplies you need for your treatment, including your aligners and other necessary items. However, there may be some things you need to buy on your own. For example, your dentist might recommend specific cleaning products for your aligners, including a solution to occasionally soak them in.
You should also have a travel-ready oral hygiene kit that is easy to fit into your purse or briefcase. It should include a mini tube of toothpaste, a small toothbrush, and floss. A mini bottle of mouthwash may also be helpful.
Preparing properly for SureSmile treatment takes a little bit of work, but you will be glad that you set yourself up for a successful teeth-straightening experience!
